<viridian> hi
[01:04:53]
<viridian> i don't see any past messages, in contrast to any other room i join
[02:16:31]
<teio> > <viridian> i don't see any past messages, in contrast to any other room i join
maybe you login in a new device
[02:17:49]
<teio> you need to verify the new login device on a previously logged-in device.
[02:18:25]
<teio> everything for security
[02:18:50]
<teio> good luck bro😉
[05:31:45]
<julian> True for the previous messages, was a bit baffled, too.
[05:32:55]
<julian> So, is there a how to guide, on how use xmpp - matrix bridge?
And if this one exist, which else exist that might come in handy?
[05:36:04]
<wgreenhouse> julian: https://archon.im/arianet/matrix-homeserver/services/ describes using this instance of the bridge, which is Maranda's fork of the matrix-bifrost project
[05:39:38]
<wgreenhouse> for deeper questions of the how and the why of it, you might need to look at the respective source repos of upstream matrix-bifrost project and Maranda's fork
[05:52:14]
<julian> Yeah that's the site I was coming from.
And if I visit the mentioned aria-net.org site, I can't find where I should enter the matrix group I want to join.
And especially what I don't get, how do use it from within conversations or cheogram.
As said, total noob in these things
[05:53:17]
<wgreenhouse> julian: from my personal experience, I think the easiest thing to do is to find the specific matrix room you're trying to join some external way, and then convert the address as shown
[05:53:45]
<wgreenhouse> I don't think the bridge includes room search, unless the search.jabber.network bot has crawled the specific bridged room, which some have iirc
[05:54:21]
<wgreenhouse> anyway then you'd just start chat -> join channel or so from conv/cheo
[05:54:27]
<wgreenhouse> and give that address
[05:55:21]
<julian> #axp.os:binbash.rocks
That's the custom ROM support group I'd want to join
[05:55:41]
<julian> Convert the address? Gimme a sec
[05:56:33]
<wgreenhouse> yes, so that would be this xmpp link:
xmpp:%23axp.os%23binbash.rocks@aria-net.org?join
[05:57:19]
<julian> #ALIAS#DOMAIN@aria-net.org
So I edit it as
# axp.os # binbash etc @ Aria
Ohhh my f** is it that EASY??!!
[05:57:29]
<wgreenhouse> yes
[05:57:43]
<wgreenhouse> and then just wait a long time as it connects possibly
[05:58:10]
<julian> Heck, windows years really taught me bad.
In a year of using Debian I realized that things are much more simple than I think they are
[05:59:38]
<julian> That xmmp % stuff, that's normally the command conversations would generate if I use the add group and type in the converted Aria "link"
[06:00:06]
<wgreenhouse> yes, the url form has to be url-encoded
[06:00:15]
<wgreenhouse> %23 is #
[06:00:33]
<julian> https://share.conversations.im/julian/U1tnwsuuzuUTDIvz/ExtjrsJGSnS0w_RVLCTyAA.jpg
[06:00:39]
<wgreenhouse> cheogram does this automagically when making share links, yeah
[06:00:40]
<julian> Holy cow, looks like I'm in
[06:01:10]
<wgreenhouse> yep!
[06:02:18]
<julian> 😱
I literally tried to wrap my head around this for half a week.
I couldn't figure out where to put it on the mentioned Aria site
[06:02:41]
<julian> Thank you so soooo much
[06:02:46]
<julian> 🤗💕
[06:03:04]
<wgreenhouse> julian: yes, I guess it's confusing in that it's not really an account you register
[06:05:09]
<julian> I was wondering, if it's via that homepage, how should it know my xmpp jid
how should that later on work without need of a browser
[06:05:32]
<julian> 😂 and it was there, right in front of me
[06:05:37]
<wgreenhouse> yeah, the homepage is just documentation, there are no active elements. :)
[06:08:56]
<julian> We also host bridges from which you can access social networks of the “walled-garden” type, those bridges require you to use an Aria Network matrix account
What's an network matrix account?
You mean a matrix account registered to the Aria service?
And what can I do with these? Especially from inside xmpp?
I don't have FB or Instagram, but my GF is using these. And we were looking for ways of getting rid of their apps, as she only use them for occasional browsing of content
[06:09:47]
<wgreenhouse> they can't be used from inside xmpp--those bridges are for people with an aria.im or archon.im matrix account
[06:10:13]
<wgreenhouse> there are bridges for some proprietary networks through slidge, like I know there is slidge for telegram signal whatsapp
[06:12:36]
<julian> So I would need to setup a matrix account and app for her, then bridge it basically the same way. This way she could use that stuff all within the matrix app?
[06:13:07]
<wgreenhouse> that's my understanding, yes, haven't used them myself
[06:15:35]
<julian> ☺️ awesome
Now only to find an app that she would like to use.
Something similar to conversations, she doesn't seem to like the look of cheogram 😂
[06:25:27]
<flansama> ...
[14:26:44]
<onkelschnitzel> Who let the dogs out?
[14:32:16]
<f_[m] (mod actions only)> who who who who who
[14:32:22]
