<Echo Archon> New post in Matrix.org: Retiring the Slack Bridge on matrix.org (https://matrix.org/blog/2025/11/removing-slack-bridge/)
[10:52:03]
<Testiclides> Oof. Another one down
[10:52:44]
<Testiclides> And the bridges they still maintain are so old, with rooms still on v1, that its almost not worth using
[12:55:16]
<Maranda> Testiclides: I think most of the budgeting behind the foundation makes little sense. I'm sure that keeping the HomeServer (matrix.org) up with a database so big (55 TB++ or so) costs big bucks, but otherwise bridges alone don't cost 100k $ to run IMHO. That's the budget they asked to be funded to keep everything online.
[12:56:27]
<Testiclides> that budget wouldnt be dedicated to just running them. it would be to also maintain/develop them, which makes more sense
[12:58:06]
<Maranda> Testiclides: HA! Develop them? Which development? 1-5H each FOSSDEM (that's how much Bifrost got)
[12:58:30]
<Testiclides> I do think however that it isnt feasible to keep the matrix.org instance running as it is now. it'd be a difficult decision, but they should probably look into not accepting new users. they should probably look into promoting a curated list of trusted public homeservers instead
[12:58:54]
<Testiclides> I wouldnt know
[12:59:00]
<Testiclides> just making an assumption
[12:59:40]
<Maranda> That's not even fullstack development which rate shall we put into it to make 100k$ required
[13:02:40]
<Testiclides> Again, no idea
[13:05:05]
*Maranda does have an idea, since his job role includes project planning and administration beyond other things.
