<just_a_rock> Does it have functionality like IRC where someone can click a link to join a room with a nickname & leave later without saving an "account"?
What are they even called since SimpleX Chat accounts aren't exactly accounts?
[00:01:46]
<stellarorion> 1. No, but you can create anonymous aliases for each invite link you join. So you can join even more anonymously and then dip
[00:02:43]
<stellarorion> 2. I forgot... You can checkout their rich wiki. They cover all questions you may have
[00:03:31]
<just_a_rock> Oh nice.
[00:03:57]
<just_a_rock> But you can still access those from the same client? They're all the same profile but appear different to message recipients?
[00:04:11]
<just_a_rock> That's awesome.
[00:04:46]
<stellarorion> It's really anonymous as it gets... It's mainly done in a way that you're not adding people, but rather server connections. So nobody can know you're in that server/chatting with someone except for the server which doesn't collect IP's anyway
[00:05:12]
<stellarorion> > But you can still access those from the same client? They're all the same profile but appear different to message recipients?

Yes

[00:05:36]
<just_a_rock> Oh cool
[00:05:43]
<stellarorion> You'll have that little mask icon next to the chat
[00:05:53]
<stellarorion> That means you're using a burner profile
[00:06:00]
<stellarorion> For that said chat
[00:06:46]

[00:07:12]
<stellarorion> You can of course add more profiles, but the burner ones you can't modify and are tied to your account
[00:07:47]
<stellarorion> In a way that you can't choose a username for the alias or set a profile like. The username is always random
[00:08:10]
<just_a_rock> I'll have to see how it compares to IRC too. It would really lower the barrier for entry for people to be able to click a link & message me instantly & then log out without having to make an account or install a client. Most friends I have are very afraid of technology & think it's magic, they never got the type of exposure to it that I did growing up, only the oversimplified UIs that magically did everything.
[00:08:56]
<stellarorion> SimpleX unfortunately doesn't have that. You have to create an account or rather a database that stores all your chats
[00:09:07]
<stellarorion> No way to access it with just a browser
[00:09:21]
<just_a_rock> Aw
[00:09:25]
<just_a_rock> Maybe in the future.
[00:10:29]
<just_a_rock> Now I might need to host an IRC server, it would be a cool project. I'm not sure how to do it safely, but I'll figure it out.
[00:11:36]
<stellarorion> I'm surprised it's still around. Seems very redundant these days
[00:12:15]
<just_a_rock> It has its uses.
[00:12:26]
<stellarorion> It's like a combination of a forum and chat LOL
[00:13:06]
<just_a_rock> What I don't like about it is that the big networks are outdated. They're on IRC 2 or something & I'm pretty sure IRC 3 is out & supports modern features such as message history.
[00:13:43]
<stellarorion> Yes, but who would use it for personal messaging? Oh yeah, I'm just gonna trust that it is really you and not some rando that picked your nickname
[00:14:16]
<just_a_rock> Yeah, that's the issue with it.
[00:14:44]
<just_a_rock> You have to claim your nickname first & stay connected at all times after that so no one else can steal it.
[00:15:12]
<stellarorion> Might as well use email at that point LMAO
[00:15:54]
<just_a_rock> But it's so simple & the barrier to entry is so low for the same reason. It might be less scary to people that have only ever used an iPad or McDonald's kiosk.
[00:16:15]
<just_a_rock> > <stellarorion> Might as well use email at that point LMAO
email my behated💔
[00:22:26]

ircv3 is in continual development. there are some things that work and some things that are just ideas, afaik.
[00:24:58]
<just_a_rock> That must be what I'm thinking of. Thank you for correcting me.
