This room is on Matrix (https://matrix.to/#/#lighthouse:aria-net.org) and XMPP

[00:09:17] <just_a_rock> Yeah!
[00:09:32] <just_a_rock> > <anti> I'm just surprised this muc is so big! the biggest I've ever seen

Everyone who makes an account with aria-net.org gets automatically added to a few chatrooms.
[00:09:49] <anti> oh, that would definitely explain it
[00:10:24] <just_a_rock> Yeah
[00:11:22] <anti> it doesn't seem very active, for sure--though it seems like the sweet spot tends to be a dozen to a few dozen members, enough to indicate that everyone is there intentionally, but not so many or few that the natural conversational thrum is drowned out and people splinter off elsewhere. that reminds me of matrix, actually. it's a cool little cross-section of the xmpp userbase, anyway; I wonder if that's why more providers don't do that (hosting a muc is probably extra work too, tbf)
[00:12:06] <anti> exactly why getting good data is difficult: privacy. though I assume you could just ask trbl lol
[09:12:58] <Maranda> > <anti> sure, I'm just wondering what sets lightwitch apart from other similar communities on xmpp--its foundational ethos, if it has one, or the closest approximate. but I appreciate it a lot! I didn't realize the staff were on irc also lol

anti the room is bridged with Matrix, #community:aria-net.org is infact a Matrix space. Which is possibly why it's so big.
[09:14:01] <just_a_rock> I think chatrooms focused on specific things will always be more active.
[09:55:18] <Maranda> Possible, but depends on the bus factor
[09:55:40] <Maranda> so if no one speaks and there isn't hot topics, it'll still stay silent
[10:57:35] <just_a_rock> yeah exactly

[17:26:28] <null> c
[18:28:30] <Echo Archon> New post in Matrix.org: This Week in Matrix 2024-05-03 (https://matrix.org/blog/2024/05/twim/)
[20:34:05] <themachinist> Well, hello everyone. Hope this spurs some friendly chat :)
