[12:26:01]
<effendy> Maranda: You need at least another administrator and some moderators. There are tons of really bad examples on matrix where the admin simply disappeared, either completely or for a very long time, and other rooms had to be created or the room just became a cemetery.
[12:26:17]
<effendy> You have to have at least one or two friends in the whole of matrix that you could add as admin, don't you?
[13:15:51]
<Maranda> effendy I'm sorry but that's not required, forgive me but there's barely any talk. You're asking to not see any spam in a channel you're totally misguided.
[13:16:19]
<Maranda> Even in Matrix Foundation managed channels it often takes days to react to spam, and you're complaining here?
[14:18:47]
<Maranda> I had other moderators, but they suddenly became inactive. And then I'd have to find trusted people eventually or have to "babysit" 'em as well. Doesn't work you're asking for too much. It takes a lot of effort to even just mantain the service as is, so the answer is:
You don't like the service, you're free to leave at your leisure.
And to be frank "the admin here never disappeared", unfortunately I may add sometimes.
[14:44:07]
<effendy> Maranda: The spam is one thing, that's not the biggest issue, although if I've come across spam so often, and it has remained there for so long, there's obviously a need for further people who moderate.
The bigger issue, I'd argue, is that, as already mentioned, if something happens to you (whatever that may be, it could be something as benign as losing access to the account for whatever reason), then the channel really becomes abandoned. This isn't how you're supposed to administer matrix channels. You need to have several people who handle it, that's the point of how matrix works, because it is, well, decentralised (although that's not entirely true, but that's a slightly different subject).
[14:44:29]
<effendy> > You don't like the service, you're free to leave at your leisure.
Your attitude leaves much to be desired.
[14:56:08]
<Maranda> I stand correct, you don't like the service, the room, the bus factor, or how it is operated, leave. I for one say that _your_ attitude leaves much to desire, when you're giving out lectures on how Matrix channels should be operated (I operate public IM services, not just rooms and not just Matrix from at least 20+ years) and throw up a controversy saying a room is abandoned when it's not.

<effendy> If you say "I stand correct**ed**", it means that you admit your mistakes. Just saying...
Anyway, what I'm saying is not controversial. It is really common sense. I didn't even want to challenge you, really. And doing something for a lot of time doesn't necessarily imply you do something well. You also have to learn from that experience, which is not self-evident.
[15:10:56]
<effendy> I didn't know I'd touch a nerve so easily, especially when it comes to an admin, eh...
[15:11:55]
<effendy> But, alright, I'll leave it to you to do what you think is best (as if I have any other choice :) ).
